I can also tell you how Jordan G. felt using my materials: “I began my first year teaching in the middle of the school year. On top of everything we all do everyday I had to plan an entire unit for R&J. THIS BUNDLE SAVED ME SO MANY TEARS!!!! Without this I would have barely been able to scratch the surface level of R&J. This boosted my confidence and allowed my students to engage with the text.” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

1️⃣ Lots of wintery hiking. 🥾 Really loving the many opportunities we have here in Scotland, but have also been learning - the hard way - that the weather is not for the faint hearted!

Did you know that in my email newsletter, I share thoughts on education, research I’ve come across, deeper questions I’m reflecting on, and quick “Tweek of the Week” hacks you can implement right away! 🙌🏼 For example, an email from a couple of weeks ago was all about flipping the script on failure, and here was the tweek…

*Admit your own mistakes and be open about your failures.* It really is that simple for this week’s tweak.

Be vulnerable and open with students about your own mistakes and failures in order to normalize them.

We know that students learn from us: not just what we say but how we act. And if we want to cultivate a space in which students feel comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, getting things wrong, developing growth mindsets, grit, resilience and all those good things… we need to model that.

We need to be able to admit when we’re not as prepared as we should be for a class and apologize for it.

When we try a new teaching technique and it falls flat, reflect openly on that failure with our students.

Perhaps you recently struggled with time management and didn’t get their papers graded on time. Share that with them.

Admit when you don’t know something.

Make a habit of being open with your mistakes, and sharing how you’re learning from them.

Try one of these this week and let me know how it goes.

✋ STOP! Which literature unit should I do next?! I really do listen… last time I asked, “The Outsiders” was the clear winner, and “Twelfth Night” was in the top five… and I did them both! ☺️ So drop some titles below and who knows, they might make my short list! ☺️

1️⃣ Lots of wintery hiking. 🥾 Really loving the many opportunities we have here in Scotland, but have also been learning - the hard way - that the weather is not for the faint hearted!

2️⃣ “What are you Going Through” by Sigrid Nunez was hauntingly, beautifully compelling. 100% my style of book: character-driven, memoir-esque, meandering, stunning use of language, deeply reflective… 💯

3️⃣ If there’s pastry nearby, I’ll find it 😏

4️⃣ Learning a new skill! Can’t say I’m an expert tiler just yet, but my new kitchen backsplash is passable. 🤭

Did you know that in my email newsletter, I share thoughts on education, research I’ve come across, deeper questions I’m reflecting on, and quick “Tweek of the Week” hacks you can implement right away! 🙌🏼 For example, an email from a couple of weeks ago was all about flipping the script on failure, and here was the tweek…

*Admit your own mistakes and be open about your failures.* It really is that simple for this week’s tweak.

Be vulnerable and open with students about your own mistakes and failures in order to normalize them.

We know that students learn from us: not just what we say but how we act. And if we want to cultivate a space in which students feel comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, getting things wrong, developing growth mindsets, grit, resilience and all those good things… we need to model that.

We need to be able to admit when we’re not as prepared as we should be for a class and apologize for it.

When we try a new teaching technique and it falls flat, reflect openly on that failure with our students.

Perhaps you recently struggled with time management and didn’t get their papers graded on time. Share that with them.

Admit when you don’t know something.

Make a habit of being open with your mistakes, and sharing how you’re learning from them.

✋ STOP! Which literature unit should I do next?! I really do listen… last time I asked, “The Outsiders” was the clear winner, and “Twelfth Night” was in the top five… and I did them both! ☺️ So drop some titles below and who knows, they might make my short list! ☺️

Also, swipe right for my “why” for why I keep creating these workbooks and literature units! Of course I love the design, but that’s not the most important part: academically rigorous and impactful… and getting engagement out of otherwise reluctant learners … that’s my motivation!! 🥰
